About
In 2023, as a patient with no history of narcotics, I was denied a timely refill on pain medication 1 week post-partum from a Cesarean Section and with a joint disorder on the sacroiliac joint. After I talked to my doctor, a pharmacist denied me the necessary medication, and I went untreated for a day with no choice and no non-narcotic alternatives. My experiences show that not only are we deep in an epidemic- so bad that patients who need treatment can’t be treated– but also that pharmacists are scared to lose their licenses. It is my lifelong goal to bridge the gap between post-natal mothers and pharmacists so that newborns can be taken care of without having to watch their mothers cry in pain, and mothers can care for and provide infant support. I am now focusing on:
*Post-partum care for emergency Cesearean mothers up to 3 weeks after delivery
*identifying how common joint disorders after birth are
*non-narcotic alternatives prescribed my doctors or pharmacists instead of non-treatment
Other factors, such as length of paternal leave and additional resources for new infants should be considered, and I hope to explore those topics as years go on.
I will begin by collecting survey research and data. I understand this project will take many years, possibly my lifetime, and I am here to bridge the gap to get mothers the treatment they need, while protecting pharmacists the same way they protect patients. Please check back for the first survey in May of 2025.
